It is mandatory that you obtain and show proof of comprehensive travel insurance coverage before your trip commences. Whilst the instances of making a claim through travel insurance are not common, it provides peace of mind; particularly as travelling across Latin America can be high risk by nature.
You must ensure that your travel insurance fully covers the following:
- Geographical location you will be travelling to.
- Personal injury.
- Medical treatment.
- COVID-19 & associated expenses.
- Repatriation & evacuation expenses, including helicopter rescue & air ambulance; in the event of an accident or illness.
It is also recommended that your travel insurance includes personal property and trip cancellation coverage. Should a trip be cancelled for any reason, whether by you or in the unlikely event, by Offbeat Horizons, a trip cancellation insurance may be the only means of receiving reimbursement for flights and other non-refundable expenses.
Given the pandemic situation, it is recommended that you specifically check that your insurance includes COVID-19 cancellation coverage. This would cover scenarios such as needing to cancel the trip due to a COVID-19 diagnosis or having to quarantine by order of government or public authority based on their suspicion that you or your travelling companion has been exposed to COVID-19.
It is your responsibility to ensure you obtain travel insurance that is fit for purpose and not only covers the trip requirements but also your personal requirements, including any pre-existing conditions. If you will be trekking at altitude, ensure that there is no upper altitude limit which may limit or exclude cover for your trip.
Please note that no travel insurance policy will cover every eventuality, and terms and conditions will apply in the event of any claim.
